Is There a Missing Galaxy Problem?

چکیده
We study the evolution of the global stellar mass density in a Λ cold dark matter (CDM) universe using two different types of hydrodynamical simulations (Eulerian TVD and SPH) and the analytical model of Hernquist & Springel (2003). We find that the theoretical calculations all predict both a higher stellar mass density at z ∼ 3 than indicated by current observations, and that the peak of the cosmic star formation rate history should lie at z & 5. Such a star formation history implies that as much as 70%, 30% of the total stellar mass density today must already have formed by z = 1, 3. Our results suggest that current observations at z ∼ 3 are missing as much as 50% of the total stellar mass density in the Universe, perhaps owing to an inadequate allowance for dust obscuration in star-forming galaxies, limited sample sizes, or cosmic variance. baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملFlow Shop Scheduling Problem with Missing Operations: Genetic Algorithm and Tabu Search
Flow shop scheduling problem with missing operations is studied in this paper. Missing operations assumption refers to the fact that at least one job does not visit one machine in the production process. A mixed-binary integer programming model has been presented for this problem to minimize the makespan. The genetic algorithm (GA) and tabu search (TS) are used to deal with the optimization...
متن کاملThe halo by halo missing baryon problem
The global missing baryon problem — that the sum of observed baryons falls short of the number expected form BBN — is well known. In addition to this, there is also a local missing baryon problem that applies to individual dark matter halos. This halo by halo missing baryon problem is such that the observed mass fraction of baryons in individual galaxies falls short of the cosmic baryon fractio...
متن کاملCost Efficiency Measures In Data Envelopment Analysis With Nonhomogeneous DMUs
In the conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA), it is assumed that all decision making units (DMUs) using the same input and output measures, means that DMUs are homogeneous. In some settings, however, this usual assumption of DEA might be violated. A related problem is the problem of textit{missing} textit{data} where a DMU produces a certain output or consumes a certain input but the val...
متن کاملA method to solve the problem of missing data, outlier data and noisy data in order to improve the performance of human and information interaction
Abstract Purpose: Errors in data collection and failure to pay attention to data that are noisy in the collection process for any reason cause problems in data-based analysis and, as a result, wrong decision-making. Therefore, solving the problem of missing or noisy data before processing and analysis is of vital importance in analytical systems. The purpose of this paper is to provide a metho...
متن کاملEnvironmental effect on the subhalo abundance — a solution to the missing dwarf problem
Recent high-resolution simulations of the formation of dark-matter halos have shown that the distribution of subhalos is scale-free, in the sense that if scaled by the velocity dispersion of the parent halo, the subhalo velocity distribution function of galaxy-sized and cluster-sized halos are identical. For clustersized halos, simulation results agreed well with observations. Simulations, howe...
